Fans of sushi and motorsport are in for a treat—conveyor sushi restaurant chain Sushiro is teaming up with Toyota for a Gazoo Racing-themed collab. The brands say they aim to create memorable experiences “by combining the joy of dining together as a family with the fun of playing with GR die-cast cars.” This succeeds Toyota’s crossover with Tomica and McDonald’s earlier in the year, which featured the GR GT3.
With the purchase of select sushi sets, diners can receive a random die-cast GR model. There are four cars to collect: the GR86, GR Yaris, GR Corolla, and GR Supra. These models feature unique liveries inspired by sushi ingredients like egg, marinated mackerel, tuna, and salmon roe.

The first set included in the collab is the ‘Make-Your-Own Sushi Set’ which includes rice balls, nori, and toppings like tuna, salmon, and egg. This set is designed to involve children in the creating and experimenting with different kinds of sushi like nigiri or maki. Also included in this set is a special GR cardboard box. Folded up, shows its GR truck design and allows for storage of a GR die-cast model; when unfolded it shows a miniature racetrack to play or display with. This set is priced at ¥720 (around P722).

The other participating set from Sushiro is the ‘7-Piece Wild Bluefin Tuna Assortment’ which allows diners to experience various ways of preparing bluefin tuna on a single plate. It includes otoro (rich fatty tuna), chutoro (medium-fat tuna), soy sauce-seared chutoro, marinated akami (lean tuna), and negitoro (minced tuna). Diners should note, however, that this set does not include the GR cardboard box. This set is priced at ¥1390 (around P535).

Toyota and Sushiro have also clarified that stocks of the GR die-cast models are limited— 140,000 units for the ‘Make-Your-Own Sushi Set’ and 40,000 units for the ‘7-Piece Wild Bluefin Tuna Assortment’—with no restocks planned once the cars sell through (Sushiro will still offer these sets on its menu).
The collaboration runs through the month of August, with select stores adorning wallpapers of GR cars in action. Unfortunately, this is also a Japan-exclusive event, so it might be worth checking out for those heading up there this month.
