Isuzu has brought out its fully electric, autonomous passenger bus at the 2025 Japan Mobility Show. Called the Erga EV, the bus utilizes LiDAR technology, along with multiple cameras and radar systems, to map out and follow its pre-programmed route.

It features a completely flat floor, which, according to Isuzu, maximizes safety and ride comfort. The floor itself also looks to be low enough to ease ingress and egress for commuters with wheelchairs, strollers, and other mobility equipment.

The exact seating capacity, as well as its power output and driving range, has yet to be revealed as the Erga is still in development. Low-floor buses are a typical sight throughout the EDSA Busway, which then begs the question: Will a fully autonomous bus fleet work for Metro Manila commuters?

The buses along the EDSA Carousel drive through a mostly straight and uninterrupted pathway—that is, until the occasional renegade motorist decides to cut in and unceremoniously slide back into the highway. A full self-driving system may have some trouble navigating with those irregular violators on the busway, but point-to-point transportation schemes could benefit from some automation.

This is especially true when it comes to keeping to a schedule. A bus set to regularly arrive and depart at a definite time would greatly benefit commuters. But just from the look of the bus alone, we’re deeply excited to see how it does in pilot testing.
