After a series of video teasers hinting at the new GSX-S1000’s sharp new looks, Suzuki has finally taken the covers off its top-of-the-line super naked.

Totally restyled for the 2022 model year, the GSX-S1000 is the most aggressive-looking it has ever been, especially with its mass-forward design, functional side winglets, and futuristic stacked LED headlights. Styling isn’t the only thing that’s new for this model, though.

First off, a multifunction LCD dash (sorry, no TFT just yet) allows access to the Suzuki Intelligent Ride System (SIRS). Included in the SIRS is the Suzuki Drive Mode Selector, five-mode traction control, a bi-directional quickshifter, a ride-by-wire electronic throttle, the Suzuki Clutch Assist System, and an easy-start system. It also gets a low-rpm assist feature to prevent stalling. These electronic aids make handling the liter-class streetfighter easier and more convenient.

As for the engine, the GSX-S1000’s beating heart is still derived from the powerplant of the GSX-R1000, but now with a slew of tweaks to make it punchier, smoother, and better for street use. The 999cc DOHC in-line-four now has more linear power and torque curves, with 150hp available at 11,000rpm. Suzuki achieved this smoother power spread through upgraded internals, like a new intake and exhaust camshaft with updated cam profiles, new valve springs, a new clutch, a redesigned airbox, and a new exhaust system that allows for aggressive streetfighter grunt while still meeting Euro 5 regulations.

A lightweight twin-spar aluminum frame is the core of the GSX-S1000’s chassis, which has been designed to deliver nimble handling and great road-holding ability. Paired with the frame is an aluminum-alloy swingarm taken off a previous-generation GSX-R1000 for proper sportbike handling.

Other handling-focused updates include fully-adjustable KYB suspensionDunlop Sportmax Roadsport 2 tires, and 23mm wider handlebars for improved control and reduced fatigue.

Apart from that, you also get the aforementioned winglets that are inspired by Suzuki’s MotoGP efforts, as well as the restyled fuel tank that doesn’t just look more aggressive, but also has an increased capacity of 19 liters.

The 2022 GSX-S1000 will be available in Metallic Triton Blue, Glass Matte Mechanical Gray, and Glass Sparkle Black. UK pricing has been announced at £10,999 (approximately P739,000), with units arriving in showrooms beginning June 2021. No word yet on local pricing and availability. Looking forward to seeing this streetfighter on our roads?
