How are you faring with the Christmas-season traffic? If holiday gridlock stresses you out, Taiwanese scooter builder Kymco will attempt to keep your blood pressure down with the new Kymco Like 150 with Noodoe technology. The latter allows you to interconnect with other riders or use the navigation system to find and get to your destination.
Here’s how it works: Download the Noodoe app to your smartphone and wait for it to appear in the stylish LED dashboard of the Like 150i. Using the small button on the right handlebar, you can then link the Noodoe app to the scooter’s interactive dash. This has a customizable display that allows you to create a design that can be shared with friends through Noodoe cloud, an online social community where riders around the world communicate. All it takes is five seconds to complete the pairing process.
With this app, there’s no need to hold your phone to communicate, and this helps ensure the rider’s safety at all times. It even gives weather updates to boot. Although Noodoe was created and developed in Taiwan, Kymco Philippines executives led by Frank Yang assure us that it will be operational here.
Now if you hate Facebook and Waze and Noodoe’s technology is not enough to excite you, then you might like the Like 150i’s other advanced features. This includes a new 150cc four-valve, air-cooled single-cylinder engine fitted with a fuel-injection system and good for 13.3hp and 12.5Nm of torque. The seat height has also been lowered to conform with Asian specifications.
Considered a big hit in Europe, the Like 150i boasts a modern-retro style that features curvaceous body lines with plenty of chrome trim on the headlight, taillight, side mirrors, turning lights, and even the stepboard. Both the headlight and the taillight use LED technology, and the bike is compliant with the newly approved House Bill 1318, which requires motorcycle headlights to be turned on at all times on the road.
The 2019 Kymco Like 150i with Noodoe goes for P119,900, while the non-Noodoe variant is at P98,800. The Noodoe variant is available only in one color, Matte Silver Crystal, while the 150i ABS has three color options: Pearly White, Bright Red and Blue. By the way, both variants are equipped with ABS.
Meanwhile, Kymco has also unleashed the new Xciting 300i 4V, a sporty scooter that’s poised to penetrate the ‘maxi’ segment.
It’s powered by a four-stroke, four-valve, liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine that generates 29.4hp at 7,750rpm and 30.1Nm at 6,250rpm. The new engine is mated to an automatic transmission that is much more convenient to operate in traffic than the manual gearbox.
The Xciting 300i is a looker with a new eagle-eye-design twin-LED headlamp, a highly visible LED taillight, and multi-function digital gauges. Both front and rear wheels (with five-step preload adjustment) are equipped with disc brakes matched with ABS.
Priced at P239,000, the Xciting 300i comes in two colors: Matte Black and Matte White. For those who like Facebook and Waze, we’re sad to report that this model does not carry the Noodoe app yet.
What’s your pick?
