The Esposizione Internazionale Ciclo Motociclo e Accessori (EICMA) is underway, which means the flurry of motorcycle-related news is about to come in. One of the big reveals at this year’s show is from Yamaha, which has just unveiled the new YZF-R7.
The R7, as it is more commonly called, gets some slight design tweaks that are quite easy to miss. The silhouette and the bike’s general shape remain intact, but the fairings have been adjusted a bit to make the bike sleeker and slimmer, perhaps for better aerodynamics rather than just improved styling. There are new-look decals on the side as well.

The new R7 can also be spec’d in a beautiful red-and-white livery. This is also available across the rest of the Supersport lineup, celebrating the brand’s 70th anniversary.

Powering the R7 is a familiar 689cc liquid-cooled, parallel-twin CP2 engine with a 270-degree crank and capable of putting out 72.4hp at 8,750rpm and 68Nm of torque at 6,500rpm. It has a Yamaha Chip Controlled Throttle or the brand’s ride-by-wire system.
The new R7 also has an R1-developed six-axis IMU that measures movements and lean angles. It also powers the bike’s lean-sensitive electronic aids like traction control, slide control, and brake control. The system also allows for subtle and predictable intervention to ultimately enhance stability and inspire confidence in its rider.
Other amenities include power modes, launch control, and lift control. The five-inch TFT also supports smartphone connectivity available through various apps to further enhance the rider experience. The new R7 also sits on SpinForged wheels shod in Bridgestone Battlax Hypersport S23 tires.
We’ll share more details as we have them, but for now, this is it. What do you guys think, though? Should Yamaha Motor Philippines consider bringing in the new R7?
