Over-accessorized 4x4 trucks are the rage these days, and the trend doesn’t seem to be abating. But are they modified tastefully? Sometimes it’s better to wait for a carmaker to release its own in-house upgraded pickup rather than build your own. A design approved by a committee saves us from expressing our ego through our rides.
A good example of a pickup upgrade done right is Ford’s latest product—the 2020 F-Series Super Duty Tremor Package. It’s not loaded with aftermarket goodies, but it still does look like a beast. The American carmaker claims that this is its most capable off-road Super Duty truck ever.
“A growing number of Super Duty customers use their trucks for more than work. They’re fishing, camping and towing boats on weekends and they go off-road, so we designed this truck specifically for them—more ground clearance, bigger shocks, bigger tires and more off-road capability,” said Todd Eckert, Ford truck group marketing manager. “Tremor balances what customers demand in terms of work with what they need in the great outdoors.”
The Tremor Off-road Package will be available for the XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, and Platinum F-250 and F-350 Super Duty trucks with either a 7.3-liter V8 gasoline engine or a 6.7-liter PowerStroke diesel mill.
These bad boys will sit on 18-inch matte black wheels paired with 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac tires that allow for 274mm of ground clearance and 838mm of water-wading—good for best in its class.
Tbe package also features Trail Control and multiple drive modes. These are engineered to suit every driving condition such as normal city drives, cargo hauling, and towing. Other drive modes also enable optimum performance for better fuel economy, as well as for traversing slippery or low-traction terrain.
The new trucks will also come with a new and unique rock crawl mode powered by Ford’s TorqShift 10-speed automatic transmission. The gasoline-powered trucks have a 53:1 crawl ratio, while the diesel ones are 44:1.
