The 3-Series may be the face of BMW, but it’s the X3 that rakes in the cash. For years, the BMW X3 has been the company’s top-selling crossover, as well as its best-selling model overall. Yes folks, more people buy these than 3-Series sedans and wagons.

With that, the all-new model has just arrived in time. After all, it has been a good seven years since we last saw a fully redesigned model. The fourth-generation X3 gets a bolder and more aggressive look, a more tech-laden interior, and a wide variety of powertrain choices.

The 2025 BMW X3 takes some design cues from the much larger XM. Its upswept headlights and sizable kidney grille are evidence of that. There are also hints of its big(set) brother with the side window treatment that sweeps upwards towards the rear. As for the rear, there are T-shaped tail lights and the ‘cleaner’ tailgate design. The standard models look angry as it is, but opt for the M-Sport pack and it looks, er, angrier.

Step inside and you’ll see a complete overhaul of the X3’s cabin. It adapts a wraparound dash design that combines the door panels and dash for a seamless look. It minimizes the things on the dash by moving the corner air-conditioning vents onto the door panels. A bit of a throwback to past BMWs. Unsurprisingly, there are far less buttons inside with most functions housed in the wide infotainment screen that also integrates the instrument cluster.

This generation also adds a few more advanced driver assist systems. Okay, adaptive cruise is still an option, but it does get Driving Assistant and Parking Assistant as standard. The prior comes with front collision warning, Lane Departure Warning, Speed Limit Info, Lane Change Warning and manual Speed Limit Assist.

All 2025 BMW X3 models come with xDrive all-wheel drive, at least for the initial launch models. The launch lineup consists of the X3 20 xDrive (turbopetrol), X3 20d xDrive (diesel), X3 30e xDrive (PHEV), and X3 M50 xDrive (turbo inline-six petrol).

For the 20 xDrive, its 2.0-liter engine makes 190hp and 310Nm of torque. For the lone diesel variant, it rises to 197hp and 400Nm. Opt for the electrified 30e xDrive and it gets a combined output of 299hp and 450Nm. As for the M50, the boosted straight-six mill in it punches out 381hp and 540Nm.
