The all-new Ford Focus is brimming with tech

We totally dig the design

We've seen the camouflaged spy photos online as well as the recent teaser video, and now Ford has finally unveiled the all-new Focus in Europe and in China.

Offered as a hatchback, station wagon, and sedan, it now carries a more upmarket appearance thanks to a longer hood, more cab-rearward proportions and wheels pushed further toward the corners. Up front it gets a larger forward-leaning trapezoidal grille flanked by sharper LED headlights, while the sides feature curved front fender lines and prominent rear hips. The trademark rear quarter windows have now migrated to the rear doors, too, and all variants now get slimmer taillights.

Inside, it features a properly laid-out interior with a new rotary gear shift dial and electronic parking brake that not only look neater, but frees up space as well. It has a roomier passenger compartment thanks to better packaging and a 53mm longer wheelbase. At the back, it gains almost 61mm more shoulder room and 71mm more legroom for improved comfort—thank the space-loving Chinese market for this.

On the tech side, it gets a wireless charging pad, FordPass Connect embedded modem, SYNC 3 with an 8-inch floating touchscreen, and Bang & Olufsen Play premium audio.

The European engine range includes the 84hp to 123hp 1.0-liter inline-3 EcoBoost gasoline, 148hp to 179hp 1.5-liter inline-3 EcoBoost gasoline, 94hp to 118hp 1.5-liter EcoBlue diesel and the 148hp 2.0-liter EcoBlue diesel powerplants. The other big news is its new optional eight-speed automatic transmission which features Adaptive Shift Scheduling and Adaptive Shift Quality Control.

The new Focus rides on a stiffer and lighter all-new C2 platform. It has an isolated subframe and a new short long arm (SLA) rear suspension system. Variants powered by the 1.0-liter EcoBoost and 1.5-liter EcoBlue get a lightweight twist-beam setup. The available Continuously Controlled Damping system helps improve driving dynamics.

On safety, it comes with Ford Co-Pilot360, which includes Adaptive Cruise Control, Adaptive Front Lighting System, Evasive Steering Assist, Blind Spot Information System with Cross Traffic Alert and the more intelligent Active Park Assist 2.

Complementing the well-equipped Titanium and sporty ST-Line variants is the new luxurious Vignale, and the Active crossover which gains an extra 30mm of ride height and rugged trim (although it's highly unlikely we'll get these in the PH market).

The all-new Focus will hit European and Chinese dealerships later this year; it will go on sale in North America in the second half of 2019. Any chance it will reach our shores? According to Ford executive Jim Farley, it will also be manufactured and sold throughout Asia.
