By now, most of 2023 auto sales have been tallied, and we’re seeing pretty interesting results. In the case of the luxury car market, it’s BMW that takes the sales crown.

With that, the folks from Bavaria retain the title of luxury sales champs. While some might not be too surprised by it, it could be said that some were expecting sales to go down because of its recent controversial designs.

BMW noted three key sales drivers for 2023. These models are the 3-Series, X1, and the X3. Despite most of the world’s markets preferring crossovers and SUVs these days, the good ol’ 3-Series is still the brand’s bread and butter, whether as a sedan or Touring (station wagon). The all-new X1 was introduced in mid-2022 and hit the ground running soon after. Meanwhile, the X3’s current iteration is in its twilight years.

Granted, the company’s top-sellers are on the conventional side when it comes to styling, the X1 aside. But what about its more radical and polarizing models? Turns out, sales for two particular models shot up last year, namely the 4-Series and 7-Series.

The all-new BMW 7 Series has landed in the Philippines

Safe to say that, um, certain comments were said about their designs, but the figures don’t lie. Per the company, 4-Series sales went up by a massive 37.4 percent. As for the radical all-new 7-Series, sales skyrocketed by 80.9 percent. Yes, the looks will remain love or hate, but it seems that the company’s bold and, in some ways, risky design direction is paying off big time.

Not only that, BMW sales in 2023 reached an all-time high. Last year, the company sold 2,253,835 units worldwide, an increase of 7.3 percent. With more all-new models on the way, BMW might keep the crown of world’s best-selling luxury car brand for a few more years.
