The new BYD Atto 2 is front and center at the Chinese carmaker’s booth at the 2025 Bangkok International Motor Show. After debuting in its home market last year, the Atto 2 is slowly inching its way to more markets, with Thailand being its latest stop.
The Top Gear Philippines team is currently at BIMS and got to get an up-close look at BYD’s newest electric crossover. Upon closer inspection, its shape and impression remind us of a Philippine classic: the Toyota Fortuner.

2025 Bangkok International Motor Show highlights:
The automotive market is seeing an abundance of avant-grade design languages with new brands from China and legacy manufacturers attempting to reinvent themselves. BYD seems to be one of the few brands that has managed to balance its modernity with aesthetics that do not completely rely on shocking first impressions.
Its new crossover, the BYD Atto 2, is perhaps most representative of that agenda as it packs an all-electric powertrain into a familiar shape. And of course, the expected friendly price also helps.

The Atto 2’s scrunched-up fascia looks similar to what’s on the Toyota Fortuner, albeit in a smaller and more compact form factor. Its grille, headlights, and overall front layout follow the blueprints of the Fortuner. The EV starts to distinguish itself around the sides and towards the rear, with more dramatic curves as opposed to the Fortuner’s rectangular shape. From that perspective, the Atto 2 actually starts to look more like the Raize, with the two being subcompact crossovers.
BYD Cars Philippines and ACMobility have yet to announce anything about the Atto 2, but given the Atto 3’s success and the local market’s affinity for subcompact crossovers, there is definitely a lot of sense in bringing this EV to the Philippines.
