The BYD Shark 6 DMO is a seriously impressive pickup, but many have commented that its stock payload capacity of 835kg leaves something to be desired. While we believe that 835kg is plenty for the average urban trucker, Ironman 4x4, a heavy-duty tuner over in Australia, has modified the Shark 6 to increase its gross vehicle mass (GVM) and, subsequently, its payload capacity.

Ironman 4x4 offers its IM2.5 monotube shock absorbers in Medium, Heavy, and Extra Heavy kits, which will improve the Shark 6’s payload capacity by 300kg to 600kg. Once a kit is installed, the pickup’s GVM increases from 3,500kg to 3,850kg, and its average payload capacity to 1,140kg. Towing capacity, however, remains at 2,500kg.

With 1,140kg at the ready, this upgraded Shark 6 beats out the payload capacity of the Toyota Hilux Conquest (1,050kg a nd the Ford Ranger Raptor (700kg).

Supplying a Shark 6 with the medium kit will cost AUD3,490 (around P132,525), while the heavy and extra-heavy absorbers are priced at AUD3,589.99 (around P136,332) and AUD3,690.01 (around P140,120), respectively.

The canopy and more rugged-looking accessories appear to be sold separately, which means the upgrades on the Shark 6 pictured above probably cost way more than P140,000. It is also unclear how these modifications affect the electrified truck’s 800km driving range and its overall ride comfort. It looks like there may be some hidden costs to adding a few hundred kilograms of carrying strength.
