The final units of the Tesla Model S and the Model X have officially rolled off the production line. Both vehicles were assembled at the company’s plant in Fremont, California, where employees then gathered for a send-off on May 10, 2026.

Earlier this year, Tesla mentioned the retirement of these two nameplates, citing a stronger shift into robotics manufacturing and autonomous driving software. The Fremont plant will now be used to help build Tesla’s Optimus robot, while other facilities will continue assembling the Model 3, the Model Y, and the Cybertruck.

The brand confirmed that current Model S and Model X owners will still be supported through continued service and software updates. Orders for brand-new units were also still accepted throughout the first quarter of the year.

Having debuted in 2012 and 2015, respectively, the Model S and Model X paved the way for the newer Tesla vehicles. These would ultimately help the brand become a legitimate option for car buyers.

Interestingly, Tesla’s other pioneering vehicle, the Roadster, is expected to return to production this year. It was previously canceled around the time that the Model S was launched in 2012.

Locally, the Model S and the Model X never officially debuted. While gray-market units were seen on Philippine roads, Tesla’s initial entry into the market only included the Model 3 and the Model Y.
