Top Gear Philippines

Late last year, we reported that a refreshed version of the Ford Everest equipped with a new engine would be making its way to the Philippines sometime in 2018. Well, it looks like that plan is one step closer to fruition.

The American carmaker just launched the new Everest in Thailand, and according to a report by the Bangkok Post, it's packing the Ranger Raptor's powertrain: A new 2.0-liter 'EcoBlue' turbodiesel engine available in 180hp single-turbo form and 213hp in twin-turbo configuration. Its six-speed automatic transmission has also been replaced with Ford's new 10-speed gearbox.

Besides the performance upgrades, the refreshed Everest sports a new-look grille, updated HID headlights, and what appears to be different cladding down low. We'll have to wait for something official from Ford Thailand to see what else is new aesthetically, but for now you can check out the photos released by the company below.

Can the Ford Everest's added Raptor performance and slightly improved looks propel it ahead of Japanese rivals like the Toyota Fortuner, Mitsubishi Montero Sport, Isuzu MU-X and the recently-launched Nissan Terra? We'll see once the new midsize SUV makes its Philippine debut.
