But do we need it?

Reception towards the first-ever Ford Ranger Super Duty has been pretty strong lately. It gave us heaps of clicks, thanks to you guys, and there’s been a lot of buzz surrounding it since. With that, there is one important question to ask.

That is: Is there a chance the Ford Ranger Super Duty will come to the Philippines? It’s not 100% yet, but it’s possible.

At least, that’s how we interpreted what Ford International Markets Group president Kay Hart said about its sale for other countries.

“It [The Ford Ranger Super Duty] is a product that breaks new ground it builds on Ranger for a whole new customer segment and it goes on sale in Australia and New Zealand in 2026. But I'm also pleased to announce that it will be sold in Thailand and also through our Global Fleet Sales Partners to markets right across Asia and Europe,” said Hart.

Given that Hart mentioned ‘right across Asia,’ it does give a glimmer of hope for this model to land here. And here’s a little fun fact, Hart was the managing director of Ford Philippines from 2013 to 2015. It’s worth pointing out that the Ranger Super Duty will be assembled in Thailand, as well as South Africa.

The Thai-made models are likely earmarked for Asia-Pacific, while the South African units could be for Europe. The Philippines sources Ranger units from Thailand.

Of course, viability will depend on demand, but as the F-Series Super Duty pickups are (probably) too big for the rest of the world, the beefed-up utility Ranger might be a better solution.

To recap, the Ford Ranger Super Duty is an extensively reengineered version of the popular pickup. It gains eight-lug wheels, along with a stiffer chassis and more heavy duty suspension arrangement. On top of that, there’s the higher towing and payload capacity, and even a 130 liter fuel tank for long haul trips. It’s then powered by a 3.0-liter Powerstroke V6 turbodiesel engine.
