By the looks of things, Geely Philippines might be dipping its toes in the local electric vehicle market. During the introduction of the company’s new president, Naoyuki Takeda, the Geely Geometery C was also previewed for the Philippine market.

Geometry is actually a sub-brand of Geely that specializes in electric vehicles. Introduced in 2019, the company how has four major model lines, namely the A, C, E, and Panda.

The model shown during the event was the Geely Geometry C, a compact EV crossover. It’s based on the Emgrand GS. Before you ask, the Emgrand GS is a model that’s totally unrelated to the Emgrand sedan that’s sold here. Instead, it rides on a larger platform used for the brand's mid-size offerings. Confused? We totally understand.

While the new EV crossover has been previewed, its arrival to the local market is yet to be determined. It seems that the company is, at the very least, gauging interest in the Geometry C and see if it’s prime time for Geely Philippines to enter the EV market.

In terms of specs, it appears promising. There are two battery sizes available, namely one with 53 kWh and a 70 kWh pack that provides longer range. Speaking of range, Geely claims up to 460km at 80 percent charge, depending on the battery pack fitted. As for power, the electric motors generate 201hp and 310Nm of torque.

Prices are a mystery at the moment, but a quick look at Geometry's Chinese website should provide a bit of a baseline. Over there (where it's called the M6), base prices range from 149,800 yuan to 159,800 yuan. At current conversion rates, that's around P1,177,000 to P1,255,000.  Of course, we're not expecting it to be priced as such if Geely Philippines decides to sell it here. But should the company keep prices low (enough), it might help futher the cause of EVs in the country.
