Honda has updated the Civic Type R for 2027. And before you ask, no, the Japanese manufacturer hasn’t added electrification (yet), but it has improved the FL5’s overall driving experience via modifications to the suspension, brakes, engine, and interior comfort. There’s also a redesigned front fascia and some aesthetic bits and pieces inside the cabin.
Let’s start with the looks. As mentioned, the Type R’s front end has been revised and now sports a deeper front splitter and a larger grille opening for better downforce and improved airflow for engine cooling. A new exterior color has also been added—Meteorite Gray Metallic—to join the previous options, including Boost Blue Pearl, Sonic Gray Pearl, and, of course, Championship White.

Inside, the aluminum shift knob, door handles, and console trim are now finished in a racier dark gray. There are also new black climate control knobs, silver front door-panel trim, and an Ultrasuede instrument panel to reduce glare and reflections on the windshield.

As for performance, the 2027 Type R features optimized suspension damping in +R mode to reduce bouncing and improve stability and handling. The Rev Match system now also delivers faster engine response for smoother downshifts. For deceleration, the brake feel has been improved by adding a yoke spring to the pedal for a more direct feel.

The cabin now features heated seats, Alexa Built-in, and Google Built-in with Gemini and Google Assistant. There are also enhanced driver-assist features like the Collision Mitigation Braking System with pedestrian detection, in addition to adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, and post-collision braking.
Unfortunately for us, those who want this sharper and more feature-packed Type R won’t be able to get it in dealerships, as Honda Philippines axed the red-badged Civic from its lineup last year. In the US, though, the 2027 FL5 will sticker at an MSRP of $48,695 (P3,048,404).
