The Honda NSX will be returning, but not in the way most of us imagined. Italian design studio Italdesign announced that a tribute project for the JDM legend is in development—and that’s about it.

Italdesign has not offered any dates or preliminary designs for the project. There is also no word from Honda on just how involved its in-house design and engineering teams will be. The Japanese carmaker has just released a new iteration of another classic nameplate in the Prelude, and all of its attention looks to be focused on that.

This revival comes at a rather interesting time for the NSX nameplate, as its final production run ended just three years ago—a far cry from the 24 years it took for the Prelude to come back. However, the NSX is an icon and will always generate excitement and anticipation. Remember when a first-generation model was auctioned off for an astounding P59 million earlier this year?

And we can wait in comfort for the next NSX, as it is in some of the best hands in the automotive industry. Italdesign sealed its name in history for drawing up the DMC DeLorean, the Volkswagen Golf, and the BMW M1. There are many more nameplates under its label, with the NSX joining soon.

Since the NSX’s last iteration in 2022, rumors have speculated that its next form will likely utilize a fully electric powerplant. We’re seeing many carmakers venture into electric supercars, but Honda and Italdesign have yet to make anything official.
