Prices for the Hyundai Santa Fe kick off at P2,410,000 for the GLS 2WD. But over the weekend, Hyundai Motor Philippines has introduced a variant that makes this sizable crossover even more accessible.
Say hello to the Hyundai Santa Fe GL, and it made its local debut during the Hyundai Mobility Experience held in the Festival Mall recently. We won’t keep you waiting for the price: It’s P1,998,000. For a crossover of its size from a legacy automaker, it looks like a bargain on paper.

So, how did Hyundai lower the prices by a whopping P412,000? Well, some features had to be deleted. For starters, it loses power adjustable seats and leather has been replaced by tartan pattern cloth trims. The sunroof has also been taken out, as well as the auto-dimming rear-view mirror, as well as the rear sun shades.
But further cutting the price down is the removal of the advanced driver assists. There’s no lane keep assist, blind spot monitors, or adaptive cruise control to speak of here, but at least still has ‘regular’ cruise control for those long highway drives. Yes, those advanced features cost a pretty penny to fit.
The rest of the car is still well-equipped, though. There’s room for seven in there, and the cool curved display is left intact, along with all the functions of the infotainment system. A reverse camera is standard, but loses the 360-degree view. From the outside, it still looks like the higher-spec GLS variant, meaning five-spoke 20-inch alloy wheels.
Under the hood of the Santa Fe GL is the same mill that powers the GLS 2WD and 4WD models. That would be a 2.5-liter engine that makes 191hp and 246Nm of torque. It’s then mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission and power is sent to the front wheels only. Stability and traction control are standard, as well as selectable drive modes.
