The Hyundai Santa Fe is about to become within reach to more people. That’s because the midsize SUV is about to gain a new variant, and it starts under P2-M. Yes, you read that right.

The car will be displayed this weekend at the Festival Mall for the Hyundai Mobility Experience. The exhibition is located at the Carousel Court, along with other models such as the Elantra and the recently released Kona.

At the time of writing, we don’t know the name of the new, more affordable variant. However, Hyundai Philippines did mention a couple of features we can expect from it. It rides on 20-inch alloy wheels like most of the variants in its range, and still has the panoramic curved screen display. Wireless charging is also included, as well as clever bi-directional console box.

We’re honestly curious as to what this variant skips out on, but it’s appearing to be good value. It retails for P1,998,000, making it possibly the largest crossover available for less than P2-M.

There’s no mention of the engine, but it’s likely to be a 2.5-liter, four-cylinder engine. If so, we can expect 191hp and 246Nm under the hood. Given its price, we’re almost certain that it’s two-wheel drive. But while traction won’t be said to all four wheels, a relatively large crossover for that price sounds like a proper bargain.

This new variant costs significantly less than what used to be the entry level variant, the 2.5 GLS 2WD. That one retails for P2,410,000, and already comes well equipped. But the new variant is a whopping P412,000 less than the GLS 2WD, a substantial saving.

We’ll find out more once Hyundai Motor Philippines releases full details. But for now, color us intrigued and interested.
