For over a year, there’s been much speculation about the hybrid Hyundai Staria. Specs and homologation papers have been published by the Department of Energy (DOE) and the Land Transportation Office (LTO), respectively, and on more than one occasion.
However, it looks like Hyundai’s electrified people hauler is finally entering the Philippine market. The brand recently booked July 9 to launch a new vehicle boasting “premium space,” and hopefully, this final round of speculation will lead to the hybrid Staria.

While we wouldn’t be disappointed about another Santa Fe, Palisade, or Ioniq 9 variant, it seems like it’s all coming together for their minivan stablemate. According to the DOE’s database, we could see two variants: the Staria HEV GLS and the Staria HEV Premium Plus.

Both will use the same SmartStream hybrid powertrain, built around a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine and a 1.48kWh battery. It should have around 242hp on tap and return approximately 13km/L in mixed driving conditions.

With multiple variants also come varying price points and finishes. We can expect the full SmartSense suite of advanced driving aids on the Staria HEV Premium Plus, along with a seven-seater cabin. Other configurations will likely get fewer creature comforts, but with more seating capacity. Thankfully, performance should be similar across the board.
