One can say that Isuzu is best known for giving its model several special edition models. Mind you, it’s not just a thing in the Philippines. Over in Thailand, there are a whole load of unique variants of the Isuzu D-Max and Mu-X.

The Isuzu D-Max was given a heavy facelift back in October 2023. It gave the truck a new, more aggressive look, along with additional feature and technology updates. Now, the lineup is growing with the addition of the X-Series variants.

The X-Series models are sportified versions of the D-Max. It’s something Isuzu has been doing for years now, not just in Thailand but in some parts of Southeast Asia, too, the Philippines included.

So, what does the 2024 D-Max X-Series get? For starters, it gets a unique front apron with a more intricate design. Also part of the X-Series look are gloss black exterior panels such as the foglight housings, grille, and test bumper trims. Black wheels are thrown into the mix, along with red highlights and racing stripes. A sports bar on the bed is also thrown into the mix.

Inside, there are more red highlights, namely on the seats, dash, and shifter. For added distinction over the standard D-Max models, X logos are placed on the dashboard trim and front seats. Even the multi-information display gets a unique X-Series welcome animation.

Mechanically, it’s the same as the standard D-Max. This is more of an appearance package after all. In Thailand, there’s a choice between a 1.9-liter or a 3.0-liter turbodiesel. Power output is exactly the same as the other variants, meaning 148hp and 350Nm for the 1.9, and 189hp and 450Nm of the 3.0-liter. Available transmission options include a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic.

The X-Series is available for both low and high-rider models, as well as in extended cab or dual cab bodies. Given that the X-Series has been offered in the Philippines before, there is a possibility that we might see this variant in local showrooms someday. For now, though, we're still waiting for the new-look to reach our shores.
