In case you were waiting for this car: The all-new Jaguar F-Type two-seater convertible is now officially available in the country, having been launched the other day by Jaguar Philippines. The British carmaker markets this as a "front-engine, light-aluminum and rear-wheel-drive high-performance sports car." For now, only a soft-top convertible of this model is on the assembly line, with a coupe version expected to be rolled out next year.
Said to be built on a shortened XK platform, the F-Type features a soft top that can supposedly be raised or lowered in just 12 seconds even at speeds of up to 50kph. The multilayer material for this soft top has what is called Thinsulate, which is touted to have optimum temperature and sound insulation.
Of the three variants available, Jaguar Philippines is selling the top-of-the-line F-Type V8 S, powered by a 5.0-liter supercharged gasoline V8 rated at 495hp and 625Nm. This engine is mated to an eight-speed Quickshift automatic transmission. Top speed is electronically limited to 300kph, with zero-to-100kph achieved in 4.3sec, according to Jaguar.
One of the highlights of this Jag is its aluminum body structure. "AC300, a 6000-series aluminum alloy, was specifically selected for parts of the F-Type," Jaguar said in a statement. "It is our most advanced rigid and lightweight aluminum architecture to date."
For those who like going on track days, this car boasts something you don't usually see in other sports cars: Dynamic Launch Mode. This should aid you in taking off more quickly on the starting grid--the better to shame those who taunt you for driving a "luxury car."
"The ownership of a Jaguar has never been a stronger statement globally," Jaguar Philippines chairman and president Wellington Soong declared. "Its performance is all about the aspects of engineering and technological excellence. This car is also a tribute to Sir Wlliam Lyons's 'Poetry in Motion' philosophy."
