Since when did Jeep lead its press releases with power figures and acceleration times? Well, presumably since it built a car with 592hp836Nm of torque, and a 0-100kph time of 3.4sec, we guess. Yep, say hello to the new Jeep Wagoneer S.

We’re told this is the brand’s first “global battery-electric vehicle” with sales due to start in the US and Canada later this year. Other markets around the world will then follow in 2025.

The Wagoneer S is built on the Stellantis STLA Large platform, with a 400-volt architecture and a giant 100.5kWh battery pack that apparently provides a range of “more than” 480km. Not fantastic, we must say.

And yet, Jeep is at pains to point out this is its most aerodynamically efficient car ever (not that the competition is that fierce in that department). It cites the enclosed—and now illuminated—seven-slot grille, the curved hood, the raked windshield, the sloping roofline, the rear spoiler, the front tire spats, and the flush, pocket-style door handles as bits that contribute to its 0.29 Cd figure.

Certainly still looks like a Jeep, too, and there’s four-wheel drive plus Auto, Sport, Eco, Snow, and Sand drive modes. Charging from 20% to 80% should take just 23 minutes with a DC rapid charger.

Inside, you get lots of modern tech, including “45 inches of usable digital screen space,” says Jeep. Uh-oh. Yeah, on the dash you get a 12.3-inch infotainment screen in the middle, a 12.3-inch dial display on one side, and a 12.25-inch front passenger display on the other. You also get a second central screen in the form of a climate control display.

Jeep itself says the Wagoneer S takes interior design cues from the Grand Wagoneer, and there’s plenty of nice ‘wine-red’ stitching and a new flat-bottomed, two-spoke steering wheel. We’re told there’s also a rather impressive 19-speaker, 1,200-watt McIntosh audio system.

What else do you need to know? Well, the Wagoneer S has a hefty curb weight of 2,570kg and gets a towing capacity of 1,542kg. Jeep hasn’t confirmed prices yet, either, but in the US it’s likely to start around the $80,000 mark (P4.7 million before taxes and shipping).
