JMC PH hints at a possible EV release sometime this year

Could this be the JMC Grand Avenue EV?

JMC Philippines (JMCP) dropped an interesting teaser earlier this month, possibly suggesting the introduction of a new EV. JMCP is mostly occupied with the light-duty truck segment here in the Philippines, with coasters and other utility vehicles to boot.

In the passenger vehicle segment, JMCP has two pickups, and that’s about it. The JMC Grand Avenue and the Vigus are the brand’s diesel-powered workhorses that all sticker for less than P1.6 million. The JMC Vigus even starts at P995,000.

In JMC’s home market, the Chinese carmaker offers a version of the Grand Avenue with an all-electric powertrain. JMCP hasn’t given too much—if not anything—away, so this is all just speculation. Other brands under JMC leadership offer EVs in sedan and hatchback form factors, but those seem less likely to enter the local market.

For the curious, the Grand Avenue EV looks essentially identical to its ICE counterpart, say for its solid grille. Oddly, there seems to be no dual-motor configuration of the Grand Avenue EV, leaving all its variants with a 4x2 setup.

According to JMC, the Grand Avenue EV packs an 88kWh battery that is good for 423km of driving range. In terms of power, this electric pickup tops out at 385Nm of torque and 180kW. It should also be able to make the 0-100kph sprint in 8.3sec.

Again, this is all speculation as JMCP has not yet revealed anything. Judging from JMC’s lineup in China, the Grand Avenue EV could be the hinted release, but we’ll only really know once we hear official word from JMCP.
