Some of you might have alraedy spotted BYD Shark units running around the metro. That’s becausehe Chinese electrified pickup has finally landed on our shores. We recently compared the new Shark 6 against the Hilux GR-S, the range-topping variant of the country’s best-selling picktup model, in our last comparo. This time, we’re pitting BYD’s pickup against one of the hottest 4x4 pickups in the Philippines: The Ford Ranger Raptor. Will this be a closer match? Let’s find out.
The BYD Shark 6 DMO measures 5,457mm long, 1,971mm wide, and 1,925mm tall, making it 76mm longer, 57mm narrower, and 3mm taller than the Ranger Raptor. The Shark rides on a 3260mm wheelbase, which is 10mm less between the axles than the Ford. The Shark also has a 230mm ground clearance, which is 42mm less than the Ranger Raptor. Each corner is loaded with 31.56-inch-diameter 265/65 R18 tires—1.15-inches smaller than the Ranger Raptor’s chunky 32.71-inch-diameter 285/70 R17 rubber. For those wondering, the electrified BYD pickup has a wading depth of 700mm, about 150mm less than a Ranger Raptor.

Here’s a quick overview of the two featured pickups in this comparo: The BYD Shark 6 DMO is an extended-range electric vehicle. It features a dual-motor setup with a total system output of 430hp and 650Nm of torque. Its 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine functions as a generator to recharge its battery pack. The all-wheel drive electrified pickup has a manufacturer’s claimed range of up to 800km and has a 0-100kph acceleration time of 5.7sec. As expected, the dual-motor pickup features all-wheel drive.
The Ford Ranger Raptor sits at the top of the Ranger lineup. The four-wheel-drive Baja racer-inspired pickup now comes in two flavors: The original bi-turbo oil-burner with 207hp and 500Nm of torque and the hotter, more powerful 3.0 V6 EcoBoost gasoline mill with 392hp and 583Nm of torque. For those curious, the V6 Ranger Raptor won the Baja 1000 stock class in 2022 and 2024. All Raptors have upgraded suspension with FOX shocks, and the V6 variant gets the more advanced dampers with ‘Live Valve’ tech.

As of this writing BYD Cars Philippines hasn’t revealed the Shark’s official pricing, so stay tuned for updates. The Ford Ranger Raptor featured here starts at P2.345 million for the Bi-Turbo variant and P2.739 million for the V6 EcoBoost variant.
