Kia Motors has launched at the 2014 Chengdu Motor Show an all-new compact sedan exclusively for the Chinese market. The Kia K4 has a 2,770mm wheelbase, longer than that of the similarly sized and globally available (except in the Philippines) Forte compact sedan. It is also, according to the Korean carmaker, one of the longest in the segment. The car's 1,815mm width and 1,465mm height also ensure that the K4 has lots of space for all its occupants.

At launch, the K4 will be available with either a 1.8-liter engine that produces 141hp and 176Nm, or a 2.0-liter mill that puts out 153hp and 192Nm. Both engines will be paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. Later on, the K4 will be offered with a 1.6-liter turbocharged powerplant mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission to create 174hp and 265Nm, "ensuring higher performance and fun-to-drive handling characteristics."

The K4 will reportedly feature a wide array of comfort and convenience features like a heated steering wheel and front and rear seats, rear air ventilation, smart key, a high-clarity TFT-LCD instrument cluster, and a telematics system designed to work with the latest smartphones. The K4 will also protect its occupants with its vehicle stability management and tire pressure monitoring systems "to further enhance active safety," while its six airbags will serve as its passive safety measure. In addition, 50% of the K4’s bodyshell utilizes ultra-high tensile steel, "giving the car a high level of passive safety and ensuring a C-NCAP five-star safety rating."

The K4 will be manufactured in China through Kia's venture with Dongfeng Yueda Kia, which, according to the Korean carmaker, is working its way to becoming one of the country's top 10 brands by 2017, by "targeting one million vehicle sales per year and a 5% market share."
