Kia reckons that it has room for another small crossover in its lineup. Just when you thought that the Sonet is as subcompact as it gets in the Kia crossover range, there’s yet another one coming soon.

Coming soon is the Kia Syros, and it’s set to be the South Korean automaker’s entry-level SUV. It’s for the Indian market, at least for now, but it should help Kia broaden its appeal over there.

There’s no launch date just yet, but teaser photos reveal what we can expect from the Syros. It adapts a tall and boxy look, a little bit like Japan’s kei cars. Mind you, it won’t be as small as those little Japanese hatchbacks, but we reckon it’ll be much less than four meters long.

Its high roofline and near-vertical tailgate is similar to that to the Hyundai Exter. Speaking of which, it’s likely that the Syros shares the same underpinnings as that Hyundai model. Other styling details of note are the bumper-mounted headlights, a rather interesting rear window treatment, and vertical tail lights.

Interior photos aren’t available just yet. However, Kia said that the cabin will be ‘lounge-like’ and feature ‘futuristic features and an innovative seating layout.’ Kia won’t say how it’s unique or different, so it’s interesting to see what feature that will be.

For powertrains, the Kia Syros is said to be available with both internal combustion and electric options. We could see the 1.0-liter and 1.2-liter options from the Hyundai Exter, as well as the EV system from the Hyundai Inster.
