If there’s one model that helped MG gain a footing in the Philippines, it would be the ZS. Who couldn’t say no to a crossover for under P1,000,000? For the same price as a loaded subcompact sedan, you can get a little more ground clearance and a somewhat more practical shape.

It’s safe to say that local consumers responded positively to the MG ZS. A common sight on the roads even to this day, it practically prints money for the automaker.

The thing is, the current model is getting a little long in the tooth. It made its world premiere in mid-2017 and received a facelift in 2019 (global models). The ZS isn’t exactly young by any standard, now at seven years old. At this point, we’re wondering when the all-new model will arrive.

As it turns out, it looks like MG has been working on it. Patent photos from the European Union Intellectual Property Office have surfaced online, suggesting that the redesigned ZS is coming sooner than later. Obviously, MG is tight-lipped on the matter, but the file suggests that the final design has been locked in.

Should that be the final look, the all-new MG ZS takes some cues from the more modern range of vehicles from the brand. There’s a sharper looking front end with a wide opening on the bumper. Its headlight takes a page from the MG3, among other things, with its more aggressive and upswept design.

The body itself appears to be longer than the current model. There are also more character lines to be seen along its flanks. As for the rear, there are wider tail lights and the tailgate now incorporates the license plate holder.

The launch date is still yet to be determined. But given the current ZS’ age, sometime in 2025 might be a safe bet with production commencing around 2026. But once MG starts putting out teaser photos, it’s only a matter of time before the full reveal.
