By now, most of us have heard that the next-generation Mitsubishi Montero Sport will make its debut in 2025. It isn't just hearsay, either. It has since been confirmed by Mitsubishi Motors a few years ago.
With that, the current model bows out after ten years by the time the all-new Montero Sport is revealed. However, that isn't stopping Mitsubishi from giving the outgoing generation one last update.

For the 2024 model year, the Mitsubishi Montero Sport gets an exterior facelift, along with a few more technology updates inside. Not only that, the Japanese automaker went through the trouble of giving it a new engine. More on that later.
From the outside, the most noticable change is the new grille. It sports a pattern similar to the new Triton and XForce, bringing it in line with the brand's current design language. Also new this year are the alloy wheel options available for the SUV. Headlights and tail lights were also given a fresher look.

Inside, it's mostly the same save for the instrument cluster. For the top-spec variant at least, there's a new digital display with crisper graphics and a new interface. The steering wheel sports a new look, replacing the old four-spoke design with a three-spoke wheel similar to the Triton. A flip-down screen at the back is standard in the range-topping variant.
Under the hood, Mitsubishi has installed the new 4N16 turbodiesel in the new Montero Sport. It's the same block found in the all-new Triton, but it doesn't get the twin-turbo version. It sticks to just one turbo and it's good for 181hp and 430Nm of torque. Because of the engine change, out goes the eight-speed automatic and in goes the six-speed unit from its pickup sibling.

So, does this mean the next-gen Mitsubishi Montero Sport will be delayed? Perhaps not. It's possible that this model might live on for a year or two and will be sold alongside the all-new model that's set to premiere next year.
