The Mitsubishi Montero Sport is one handsome midsize SUV. Sure, maybe the taillights are sort of a ‘love it or hate it’ kind of affair, but overall, the thing’s a looker. We think we can all agree on this.
If, however, you’re an individual who’s not content with settling for a stock look, you’ve probably wondered why Mitsubishi Motors Philippines doesn’t offer the Montero Sport with a little more visual flair. The midsize SUV is, after all, one of the most moddable platforms around. Countless aftermarket outfits catering to the segment will attest to this fact.
In Europe, Mitsubishi is set to offer the vehicle—known over there as the Shogun Sport—with a new SVP package. The Japanese carmaker took the 2019 Commercial Vehicle Show as an opportunity to preview the midsize SUV’s aftermarket look with the Mitsubishi Outlander Shogun Sport SVP Concept.
Admittedly, the name’s a handful. Thankfully, the package isn’t, as the add-ons are relatively subtle.
While the body of the vehicle remains the same, it gets more rugged-looking 18-inch Predator alloy wheels with a red rim design. It runs on BFGoodrich all-terrain tires and has wheel-arch extensions to accommodate a wider track. Up top, there’s an LED light bar, and on the grille are a pair of rally-style PIAA driving lamps. There’s also a rear spoiler and special SVP decals.
The interior of the Shogun Sport SVP Concept flaunts some special upholstery and additional bolstering on the seats. To match the red bits of the exterior, Mitsubishi has given the cabin some nice red mood lighting, too.
Performance? Same 2.4-liter turbodiesel engine (181hp and 430Nm) and same Super Select 4WD system, plus a suspension setup tuned by Walkinshaw Performance Limited and Koni.
