After years and years (and years) of rumors, we finally (finally) got official word from Mitsubishi that the Pajero was making a comeback. Finally.
Recently, the Japanese carmaker has started talking more about the soon-to-be-revived nameplate, and it’s even revealed a few details here and there. The latest of which is regarding the iconic trio of gauges we saw in previous generations: It’ll be making a comeback in the next model.

It’s a big deal, yes, so much so that it warranted its own press release. But but before you get too excited, know one thing: This multi meter display will likely be digital. Oof. At least that confirms the new Pajero’s off-roading capabilities, right? Right.

Mitsubishi hasn’t said anything definitive yet, but it did release a teaser image of the three gauges, and they looks very similar to the digital displays that you have in the brand’s other models. If you aren’t familiar, these aren’t even housed in their own panels—they’re optional displays that can be viewed through the infotainment system. In the all-new Pajero, it’ll most probably see the same execution.
According to the press release, the new multi meter will provide information such as altitude, compass heading, ambient temperature, vehicle pitch and roll angles, and left-right torque distribution.

If this ends up being the case (and we think it will be), then Mitsubishi will have missed a big opportunity to properly bring back an iconic feature. See, in the last iteration of the Pajero—the BK, as it is known—the analog gauges were removed to make way for the newer center display. The gauges and even the compass have been dearly missed, so it would’ve been a very nice touch if Mitsubishi brought these back for the next model.
But who knows, we could be wrong? We hope we are.
