Concept cars are usually a hit-and-miss kind of thing. If we’re lucky, the finished product looks every bit like what the concept promised. Other times, we find ourselves let down by the model that hits dealerships. Production costs and economic realities inevitably take over, resulting in a less-than-concept-worthy finish. In the case of this Mitsubishi show car, though, we’re hoping that nothing is changed once it hits the production line.
Meet the Triton Absolute concept (the Strada is sold as the Triton in certain markets), which is on display right now at the 2019 Bangkok International Motor Show. This is the concept that Mitsubishi teased a few weeks ago, and it lives up to the ‘Beyond Tough’ marketing slogan.
Up front, it features the brand’s Dynamic Shield face with an imposing skid plate underneath. There’s a similar plate in the rear, along with a big sport bar above the bed. Along the sides, it boasts big muscular haunches and beefy off-road rubber underneath. It’s a pretty badass package overall, and while we don’t know yet what kind of performance kit the production model will have, it could end up rivaling other performance pickups like the Ford Ranger Raptor.
