If anything, the last couple of crash tests we featured show that it’s actually difficult to get that much coveted five star safety rating. It also goes to show how far cars have come in protecting its occupants, as well as preventing an accident from happening in the first place.

We’re taking a break from two and three-star cars and turn our attention to one that gets full marks. In case you missed the headline, it’s none other than the Mitsubishi XForce.

It was recently put through its paces by the ASEAN New Car Assessment Program (ASEAN NCAP) and was run through a barrage of tests. From passive safety (crash testing) to active safety (advanced driver assist systems), ASEAN NCAP had generally good things to say about Mitsubishi’s latest crossover.

For the frontal crash test, the XForce saw good scores for head, neck, thigh, and foot protection. The same test also saw adequate protection for the occupant’s chest and legs.

It’s almost the same story for the side impact test with good protection for the head, neck, and lower extremities and adequate protection for the chest. When it comes to protecting front adult passengers, the Mitsubishi earns a score of 87%.

Where the XForce got near perfect scores is in the child occupant protection tests. In frontal and side impact tests, the subcompact crossover received perfect ratings. It then got good marks for its ISOFIX mounts and ease of installing child seats. Only the lack of child presence detectors lowered its score to 85%.

Praises were given to the performance of its brakes, while its autonomous emergency braking system in urban and higher-speed settings were rated adequate. Blind spot detection was decent, while pedestrian protection received a perfect mark.

With all testing scores combined, the Mitsubishi XForce garnered a weighted score of 79.15, enough to give it the full five-star rating. Oh, and it was tested under the tougher guidelines that make it more difficult that score. So, for those in the market for an XForce and wondering about its safety, here’s your answer.
