In terms of sales, Toyota practically rules every segment in the Philippines. However, there is one segment that, surprisingly, lost the lead in last year. We’re talking about the MPV sales race.

Granted, it’s been a while since automakers have posted their sales reports. But Mitsubishi has recently been making noise about it now being the MPV sales leader in the land. Yes folks, the Mitsubishi Xpander was the best-selling MPV in the Philippines in 2023.

Mitsubishi Motors Philippines didn’t mention the exact numbers, but the company cites the report from the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines (CAMPI). By the looks of it, it’s the combined sales figures of the standard Xpander and Xpander Cross. Either way, it’s one heck of an achievement to knock off the evergreen Toyota Innova off its perch.

At the same time Mitsubishi made that sales announcement, it also took time to mention a few updates for its subcompact three-row model. There’s now a new color available dubbed Green Bronze Metallic. If it looks familiar, it was previously reserved for the Xpander Cross Outdoor Edition. Also for the 2024 model year is the addition of new 9-inch touchscreen display audio system with a new interface.

With that achievement in the bag, the Mitsubishi Xpander and Xpander Cross have a new challenge this 2024. That’s if this subcompact seven-seater can retain the title by the end of the year. Knowing Toyota, it won’t take that lying down, but for now, take a bow, Mitsubishi.
