We all know that the Mitsubishi Triton just received minor improvements over in Thailand. It’s mostly the addition of more tech for its advanced driver assists, and a few trim changes on the outside. As far as updates go, it’s a minor one.

Given that the Philippine market sources its Triton units from Thailand, we won’t be surprised if that model will land here eventually. What we weren’t expecting is how soon it might show up in local showrooms.

Rummaging through the Land Transportation Office’s database, we were surprised to see several listings that said ‘Mitsubishi Triton (MY 2026)’ in several variants. More specifically, it’s the GLX variants that were on the site.

So far, it’s the GLX 2WD MT, GLX 2WD AT, and GLX 4WD MT that recently received approval from the LTO. It’s likely that other variants will be listed there down the line, but that’s what we saw at the time of writing.

What to expect, then? In the case of the GLX models, we could see more blacked out exterior trims. It’s similar to the Black Series package that was rolled out in Thailand prior to this facelift. It’s unclear if we’ll get black wheels for the Philippine market, or if the rest of the variants will get LED daytime running lights. Either way, we’ll know once the model arrives on local shores.

While not yet listed at the time of writing, the GLS variant could get more standard features. Chief among which is the addition of the NanoeX cabin air purification system. As for the Athlete, the low-speed function for its adaptive cruise control system could be fitted to the Philippine versions.

Don’t expect anything new under the hood, though. After all, the Thai models have carryover engines. That means a 2.4-liter MIVEC turbodiesel in two states of tune. Single turbo units put out 181hp and 430Nm, while the twin-turbo mill makes 201hp and 470Nm.

While not a major facelift yet, this update is likely in response to the influx of new pickups coming in the pipeline. These include the next-generation Toyota Hilux, and the Triton’s twin, the redesigned Nissan Navara. And let’s not forget reports of the Ford Ranger getting a host updates and upgrades next year, along with the Chinese making headway in the pickup class.
