The Nissan Xterra and Pathfinder are reportedly set to return in 2028, with hybrid powertrains and body-on-frame chassis. According to Automotive News, the announcement was made at a dealer convention in Las Vegas, with CEO Ivan Espinosa in attendance.
Under Espinosa, Nissan has closed multiple facilities to consolidate production lines and ultimately save money. But it looks like new vehicle development isn’t slowing down, as 20 new Nissan models are expected to enter the North American market over the next few years.

Back in Japan, the updated X-Trail Nismo recently debuted alongside other rugged- and urban-themed variants. Locally, we’re expecting the subcompact Magnite to make its way over to the Philippines.
It looks like Nissan believes its resurgence lies in nostalgic nameplates and modern technology. The report states that the Xterra—which was discontinued in 2015—will utilize a hybrid V6 engine with up to 120km of all-electric driving. Less was said about the new Pathfinder, but the report did mention that both of these vehicles will be built at the Nissan plant in Canton, Mississippi.

At the dealer convention, Nissan Americas chairman Christian Meunier also shared renders of a boxy, off-road-focused SUV with an “upright grille and squarish headlights.” And because these SUVs will use a body-on-frame platform, a new Frontier pickup has also been thrown into the conversation.
As mentioned, these vehicles will be built in the United States, which means a Philippine release isn’t too likely. As Nissan Philippines president Masao Tsutsumi plans to launch 10 to 12 new vehicles over the next three years, we will probably have better luck with the X-Trail making a local comeback.
