After exhaustively testing the Range Rover Sport SVR around the Nurburgring Nordschleife circuit, Land Rover has finally released the lap time of a standard production version of the midsize luxury SUV on the famed track: eight minutes, 14 seconds.
"The Nurburgring is a benchmark for vehicle development and testing, and cars become stronger, more durable and faster over its 13 miles (20.8km) and 70-plus corners," said Land Rover’s chief engineer for vehicle integrity, Mike Cross. "We wanted to see whether an SUV could behave like a performance car in this challenging environment. The results are spectacular and the Range Rover Sport SVR has demonstrated outstanding on-road performance capabilities."
Developed by the Jaguar Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations team, the Range Rover Sport SVR packs a 5.0-liter 542hp supercharged V8 engine under the hood. And while the vehicle excels on the road, no compromises were made to its off-road prowess, thanks to the two-speed transfer case and water-wading depth of 33.5 inches.
The Range Rover Sport SVR will go on sale in 2015.
