Unnecessarily powerful pickup trucks are a rare, tremendous delight, and the modified F-150 via Roush Performance is both of those things; it is entirely unnecessarily powerful, and quite tremendous.
Roush now tells us its incorrectly spelt NITEMARE 4x4 just did 0-60mph (0-97kph) in 3.9secs. Which in the grand pantheon of ‘Going Really Quite Quickly,’ is really quite quick indeed.
At least one of the trucks did that. Roush ran a pair of its modified F-150s at a drag strip in Michigan. The first one – SuperCrew spec, light fuel load, Sport mode activated, locked rear diff, Conti tires inflated to 32psi – ran the gauntlet in 4.1secs.
But it’s the second one, a ‘Regular Cab’ modded F-150 equivalent to a production NITEMARE pick-up, that dipped below four seconds. That’s indecently quick for something so big and utilitarian.
The Roush F-150 has the punch. The standard 5.0-liter V8 benefits from a mighty supercharger to take power up to 650hp and 881Nm of torque, along with a special new exhaust and many stickers and badges. You can even order one from selected Ford dealers in the USA, making it a ‘production’ truck. Would you?
