It’s been quiet on the performance car front over at Subaru. After all, it’s been quite some time since we heard any updates from the WRX and BRZ. Last we heard was the limited-run WRX S210 that finally packed about 300hp…only to be paired with a CVT.
Thankfully, Subaru relative silence on that end doesn’t mean it’s abandoning its performance car plans. Over in Japan, the company recently showed a teaser that’s a step in the right direction.

A dark, shadowy teaser of what could be the next-generation Subaru WRX was shown to select individuals. Thankfully, one of those select individuals snuck in a photo for the world to see. You can see the photo by clicking on these blue words.
Saw it? It appears that it will have a totally different front end, hinting that it might be an all-new vehicle. We also see chunkier fender flares, aggressive-looking hood vents, and of course, a hood scoop. That said, it’s hard to tell if it’s a sedan or a hatchback.

The alleged all-new Subaru WRX will likely be shown at the upcoming Japan Mobility Show 2025. It’s set to open on October 25, so it’s something we’ll look forward to when we’re there. The scoopers over at Best Car said it will be there as a prototype – in other words, a thinly veiled production car.
If so, it’s about time the spotlight came back to the WRX. The current model has been around since late 2021 and hasn’t received a facelift since. That said, there have been a slew of STI Sport and limited run models, but never a full-on STI version. Fingers crossed the next-gen model finally gets Type R and Gazoo Racing levels of performance. With a manual gearbox, too, please.
