Heads-up, Subaru lovers: If you’ve been on the fence about going all-out and buying a WRX or WRX STI, now might be the perfect time to pull out your wallet.
Motor Image Pilipinas, the Japanese carmaker’s official local distributor, has just announced that the WRX and the WRX STI are receiving a handful of upgrades aimed at making the sedans safer and more convenient.
Both cars will now come with a new eight-inch high-resolution display akin to the entertainment units found in the more modern XV and the Impreza. These will support Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and will churn out sound via a Harman Kardon audio setup. A front-grille camera has also been thrown in to provide a little extra visibility when parking facing a wall.
The WRX 2.0 CVT will now come with EyeSight Driver Assist Technology as well as an electronic parking brake and auto vehicle hold. The WRX STI 2.5 MT, meanwhile, will flaunt an updated interior trim and a new sunroof. Below are the two cars’ prices:
Subaru WRX:
1) Subaru WRX 2.0 CVT – P2,008,000
2) Subaru WRX 2.0 CVT with EyeSight – P2,058,000
Subaru WRX STI:
1) Subaru WRX STI 2.5 MT Premium (no wing) – P2,748,000
2) Subaru WRX STI 2.5 MT (with wing) – P2,648,000
There you have it. Do you think the price jump is worth the added safety and convenience? We think it is—frankly, that old WRX head unit was beginning to look ancient.
