Will we ever get the all-new Swift in the Philippines? While we wait for an official answer, Suzuki Netherlands has come up with a very interesting concept. It’s called the Suzuki Swift AllGrip FX, and we say we wish it were a real production model.
Mind you, there’s a version of the Swift simply called the AllGrip, and the specs are pretty neat. If anything, it’s the perfect car to pair with the Jimny.

As the name implies, the AllGrip is the all-wheel-drive version of the subcompact hatchback. We’re just as amused as you (probably) are, although all-wheel-drive Swifts have existed in Japan for quite some time already. Still, it doesn’t take away from the novelty factor.

Suzuki didn’t just add a driveshaft to the rear wheels and call it a day. AllGrip is an automatic AWD system that sends power to wheels that need the most traction. Think of the usual system found in crossovers, but applied in this neat little package. Obviously, it won’t go as far as a Jimny off-road, but it should be good enough for most. Oh, and did we mention that it has an extra 32mm of ground clearance?

This FX variant also gets a sweet exterior and interior upgrade. Additions include a Thule roof rack, chunky Michelin CrossClimate 2 tires, and smatterings of gloss-black trim and badges. If that’s not enough, there’s even a Tralert LED lighter on the grille. Inside, you’ll find a Dometic cool box and storage box along with rubber mats for easy cleaning.
So, what powers this rugged Swift? It’s the same 1.2-liter mild-hybrid mill that’s already in the Dzire. It’s good for 81hp and 112Nm, so don’t expect it to offer hot hatch performance. Interestingly, the AWD version doesn’t allow for the CVT, at least for European markets. That means this partifular Swift can only be mated to a five-speed manual. Not that we’re complaining.
Sadly, the FX is a one-off model, but it should serve as a peg for adventurous Swift owners. That said, we’re still keeping our fingers crossed for the newest generation of this small hatch.
