The all-new Tesla Roadster finally has a launch date, and it is set for October 2, 2026. A ticking countdown went live on the company’s website, posted next to a curious teaser image.

Tesla fans and EV aficionados alike have been waiting for nine years for the next-generation Roadster. In case you’ve forgotten, this version of the Roadster was first seen at the launch of the fully electric Semi truck in 2017, where it was touted with hypercar-like performance. Its crowning figure was an advertised 0-100kph sprint of 1.9sec.

At the same event, pre-orders opened, but Tesla never disclosed when deliveries would commence. Since then, the Roadster has been the subject of delays, redesigns, and updates at Tesla shareholder meetings. While some of those updates mentioned improved performance and additional specs, production timelines continued to get pushed back.

However, we now have an actual date to hold Tesla to. Admittedly, we aren’t sure what to expect, as the teaser image looks like an entirely different car than what was shown in 2017.

The menacing red taillight and the long metallic bumper look like something from the Cybertruck’s wheelhouse, while the image also features four lights blasting through the roof. We doubt that this is an off-road-inspired light bar, but probably an effect to show off the car’s shape and speed.

While we wouldn’t want to play pessimist, history suggests that Tesla could throw out more dates for pre-orders, production, and deliveries. We’ll likely see what the Roadster will look like on October 2, but reaching customers may be an entirely different saga.
