The Tesla Roadster will finally enter production next year and will—according to CEO Elon Musk—be capable of 0-97kph in less than a second. Wut.

This comes more than six years after the car was first revealed, when it was initially claimed that the Roadster would blast through 0-97kph in 1.9sec on its way to a top speed of 402kph. All while achieving range of 1,000km, of course.

Since then, the Roadster has rivaled the ‘new’ TVR Griffith for punctuality, with any number of delays pushing back its release as Tesla focused on the Model 3, Model Y, and most recently the Cybertruck.

Last we heard, the Roadster had been delayed again so that the company could concentrate on its Optimus humanoid robot project.

Anyway, today Musk took to Twitter (or X, whatever) to confirm: “Tonight, we radically increased the design goals for the new Tesla Roadster.

“There will never be another car like this, if you could even call it a car,” adding that it would be a “collab” between Tesla and his SpaceX rocket company.

“Production design complete and unveil end of year, aiming to ship next yea[r],” he continued. “I think it has a shot at being the most mind-blowing product demo of all time.”

He then replied to an X user, confirming that 0-60mph (97kph) would occur in less than a second and that that capability was “the least interesting part” of the car.

Big talk. Let’s hope Tesla can make good on its promises…
