It’s hard to believe that the current-generation Mercedes-Benz CLS is already five years old. It only seems like yesterday when the swoopy lines of the four-door coupe first entered the scene. In car years, however, five years is an eternity. And as far as Mercedes-Benz vehicle cycles go, the CLS family looks like it's ready for a new generation. But before this happens, Mercedes-Benz is unveiling a "Final Edition" variant to signal the end of this model with a stylish bang.
An 8,211-euro (P424,500) option, the Final Edition package adds a host of exterior, interior and tech upgrades to the already cutting-edge CLS Coupe and Shooting Brake. The additional touches include exclusive tinted glass, a sliding sunroof and the multi-beam LED headlamps. This last bit of hardware, in particular, is interesting as it features 24 high-performance LEDS per light module. Along with the adaptive lighting function, driving at night or under poorly lit conditions becomes stress-free and safe.
Aside from these already desirable elements, the CLS Final Edition package also includes a diamond grille, AMG front and rear aprons with prominent air intakes, and twin tailpipes with angular exhaust pipes. The look is finished off with either 18- or 19-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels--the latter in high-gloss black.
Inside, the Final Edition touch can be seen in the exclusive flat-bottom sports steering wheel with Dinamica microfiber on the grip points. The seats feature bright-colored topstitching and can be adjusted in a multitude of ways, including the upper and lower lumbar support. And of course, the 9G-Tronic gearbox can be controlled via shift paddles on the steering wheel, while aluminum sport pedals with rubber studs make for a truly racy feel. There are also a few Final Editon badges and floor mats that let the world know you’re driving a unique model.
This being a Mercedes-Benz, engine options--along with suspension, tires and other driving packages--are on offer. A slew of elegant and sporty colors are likewise available, together with the buyer’s choice of interior trims and options.
The Mercedes-Benz CLS Final Edition naturally signals the arrival of a new model sometime soon. But if you really dig the current CLS Coupe or Shooting Brake, then the Final Edition is the way to go.
