Remember the Pixis Mega? Regular readers may recall the cute little runabout we featured about a year ago that showed Toyota’s fun and funky side. Well, the Japanese carmaker wants to continue to project this image by adding a bit of joy to the equation.

This is seen with the recent reveal of the Toyota Pixis Joy. The cool mini vehicle’s name isn’t just a play of words, mind you. It is actually Toyota’s way of letting would-be buyers know that they will indeed be happy upon purchasing the small city car. That’s because each variant offers fuel efficiency, a low asking price (starting at around 1.22 million yen or about P550,000), and of course, funky good looks.

Buyers can choose from three distinct versions. The practical Pixis Joy C features a higher ground clearance (180mm), 15-inch alloy wheels wrapped in skinny yet fuel efficient 165/60R15 tires, and resin accents front and rear. The Pixis Joy F, meanwhile, is the more elegant of the bunch, with metal plating on various body parts for a more premium vibe. This is further highlighted by the fabric suede seats that give an air of sophistication. And finally, the sporty Pixis Joy S adds stuff like a Momo steering wheel with paddle shifters, and aero bits on the exterior that enhance its appeal even further.

Either way, each of these minis is powered by a KF-series 660cc turbocharged motor mated to a CVT. While these numbers may seem paltry, take note that this little bugger is really meant for city use and here to provide happiness to eco-conscious motorists.

The new Toyota Pixis Joy is now available at all 211 Toyota dealerships throughout Japan. We hope Filipinos will soon get a dose of some of that happiness. It’s a side of Toyota we really want to see.
