Tracing its roots back to the original model introduced in 1968, the latest Jaguar XJ is touted to be one of the most luxurious rides in the full-size sedan class. The face-lifted model takes its cue from the X351 body style, first seen in 2009, and puts in place a whole slew of upgrades to make the car even more luxurious and engaging to drive.
The front end features a new, more upright grille flanked by the now-signature quad LED headlight cluster; the latter also has auto high-beam assist. Sporty side air blades enhance the swooping side profile, while the rear is finished off by LED taillights with signature Jag J-tail and positioning lights.
Inside, the new XJ can be ordered with Portfolio trim with quilted soft-touch leather, complete with diamond stitching and ebony veneer for that truly upscale touch. Luxury isn’t the XJ’s only ace--it likewise boasts an infotainment system that keeps occupants both connected and entertained while on the road. The new InControl Touch Pro system has a quad-core processor, a 60GB storage capacity, and a solid-state drive. It even has a Wi-Fi network and can be operated via touchscreen. Plus, all your media will sound truly awesome, thanks to the 26-speaker, 1,300W Meridian Reference sound system.
Buyers can choose from an all-aluminum family of I4, V6 or V8 powerplants. The 2.0-liter four-cylinder puts out 237hp and 340Nm; the 3.0-liter V6 develops 335hp and 450Nm; and the 5.0-liter V8’s output ranges from 463hp and 575Nm, all the way to 542hp and 680Nm. All engines benefit from direct injection, turbocharging, and start-stop technology.
Those who prefer a diesel motor may opt for the 3.0-liter V6 that pumps out 296hp and a tree-pulling 700Nm. This makes for a 0-100kph sprint time of just 6.9 seconds while still being Euro 6-compliant.
New to the XJ range for 2016 is the Autobiography package. This features a host of exterior and interior upgrades to make the long-wheelbase model different from the “usual” variants. These include chrome air intakes, 20-inch Mataiva wheels, semi-aniline quilted leather with contrast stitching, and illuminated stainless-steel treadplates and air vents, just to name a few.
The 2016 Jaguar XJ will be available in the United Kingdom later this year, so you may start inquiring about it with Jaguar Philippines.
