Back in 2022, Volvo announced that the modern and software-defined EX90 would be the ‘successor’ to its flagship SUV, the Volvo XC90. There were plans to produce the EX90 in Volvo’s factories in the United States and China—ensuring a total global release. However complications in production delayed its release, and here we are two years later.
Volvo introduced the EX90 in Thailand with two options for performance: a standard AWD powertrain and a ‘Performance’ variant that adds about 100 more horses (for an extra fee of course).

Both variants still pack the same 111kWh battery and dual motor system. That combo tops out at 180kph and a maximum driving range of about 600km. However, how the variants get to that top speed and cover that distance is vastly different.
On the standard EX90, the powertrain produces an impressive 402hp and 770Nm of torque that allows for a 0-100kph acceleration in just 5.9sec. On the Performance variant, the EX90 sheds about a second in that 0-100kph sprint, completing it in 4.9sec. It packs an even heavier punch too, creating 510hp and 910Nm of torque.

Even for the base EX90, that’s a powerful drive for a fullsize SUV. And drivers and passengers will experience all that power in a comfortable and clean, Scandinavian-designed interior. The cabin is centered around a big 14.5-inch screen, yet it doesn’t stand out as much as the screens on Tesla EVS, and recent BYD releases. It is a simply subdued layout.
Volvo is synonymous with safety and that is where its software will shine. It definitely needs a real world test to verify its usefulness on Philippine roads, but Volvo has added multiple types of sensors and additional protocols to ensure the safety of those inside the EX90.

Buyers in Thailand will paying THB4,290,000 (P7.32 million) for the standard EX90 and THB600,000 (P1 million) more for the Performance variant. Is P1 million worth 100 extra horses?
