It’s no secret that muscle cars are often associated with wasteful living and reckless abandon. Their huge size, large engines, and even more gargantuan thirst for fuel have made them an environmentalist’s worst nightmare. They personify what it means to live in the fast lane, especially during their heyday.
Now meet a muscle car that has grown a conscience--the Dodge Challenger Hellcat. Actually, we’re referring to the Hellcat X, which is a special, one-off edition of the American carmaker’s mean beast. It is being raffled off for charity in the annual "Dream Giveaway" promo in the US. What’s even more amazing is that you can also win its spiritual predecessor, the original 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T.
For as little as $3 (P135) a ticket, you can take home this high-performance American muscle. While the "stock" machine is an already potent performer at 707hp and 881Nm, the gearheads at Walsh Motorsports tuned the 6.2-liter Hemi V8 engine and fitted it with a turbocharger and supercharger to increase the power to a whopping 805hp and the torque to an even more insane 1,085Nm. This makes it one totally crazy, street-legal machine.
Matching its raw power is an equally brutal look. The badass bits include a hood scoop and aluminum hood extractors, an accented front grille surround, and a handcrafted rear diffuser. The look is finished off with an adjustable chin and a rear spoiler. Needless to say, a slew of logos are seen on almost every part of the car, including the fenders, the wheels, and the interior.
As if winning the bespoke Challenger Hellcat X isn’t awesome enough, a 1970 Challenger has been thrown in. The R/T features a four-barrel carburetor (young guys, take note), a pistol-grip shifter, and other tasty bits. Just like its "grandchild," the R/T Challenger likewise has a claim to fame, having starred in the 2012 television show Revolution Reborn--not to mention being only one of the 100 cars finished in a glossy black coat of paint.
Since 2008, Dream Giveaway has been, er, giving away quite an amazing host of prizes for the benefit of numerous veterans’ and children’s charities. This year, it will be giving away a pair each of Mustangs, Corvettes, and, as already mentioned, Challengers. Want to help? Visit the promo website to find out more.
So, who says you can’t be good while being bad?
