For the unfamiliar, YangWang is the luxury line of Chinese juggernaut BYD—if Toyota has Lexus, then BYD has this brand. It’s a very young and ambitious marque that attempts to drive on the thin line between luxury cars and supercars.

Most of YangWang’s releases have remained within China, competing with Jaguar Land Rover, Rolls-Royce, and Mercedes-Benz. However, at the 2025 Singapore Motorshow last week, the car, aler took the stage and presented its electric supercar, the YangWang U9.

The U9 was officially launched in February 2024 with an impressive, almost record-breaking spec sheet. Using the same cell-to-body chassis found as BYD Seal, it packs enough juice to make a groundbreaking 1,300hp and 1,680Nm of torque—good enough to make the 0-100kph sprint in just 2.36sec.

YangWang claims the U9 has a maximum driving range of 450km, and with its top speed of 309kph, that makes for good, clean electric fun for about an hour and a half.

The cabin is constructed mostly from carbon fiber to keep the entire EV sturdy and stiff. In lieu of an infotainment system, YangWang instead loaded up the U9’s database with an ‘intelligent racing assistance’ program that will give drivers detailed information about racetracks located in China. And like all BYD vehicles, the cabin is adorned with Dynaudio speakers.

Harnessing all the available power are two systems that can configure and adjust the U9’s suspension, torque, and overall body control during high-speed driving maneuvers. The ‘BYD DiSus-X Intelligent Body Control System’ takes care of the suspension, while the ‘e4 Platform’ addresses each motor and axle for power delivery and control.

With all that power and force, YangWang proudly claims that the U9’s driving experience is still smooth and comfortable—and maybe soon to be accessible to more people outside of the brand’s home market, too.
