The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is apparently not satisfied with the work done by the contractor that undertook the rehabilitation project of the Osmeña flyover crossing Buendia Avenue in Makati City. The contractor, Tokwing Construction, has been ordered to re-do the whole asphalting works as it failed DPWH's quality standards.
According to the DPWH, pavement failures due to the asphalt material used in the project started to occur within days from the opening of the flyover to vehicular traffic. This forced DPWH secretary Rogelio Singson to demand Tokwing Construction to totally remove and replace the asphalt overlay on the flyover at the company's expense.
The contractor has reportedly agreed to comply with the DPWH's directive and, depending on the weather condition, will start working on the re-asphalting of the flyover on October 14, 2011, and hope to complete it in two weeks time.
